Cara Mira

My dear, beautiful darling, my child that i admire.
To my dear, farewell!
My dear girl,
why not walk far away from science?
My dear, dear girl.
To my lovely.
To my dear.
To my dear.
To my child,
My dear,
dear to me!

I think its a beautiful song....I love it :)

Hey Guys!

Just posting about my life- I think I'll have less "diary" blogs in the future, and more writing ones. Reasons below.

Few things going on- Cross Country started, just ran my first race today. I broke up with Andrea (huge sad face :( ) but I'm trying my hardest to get her back....so, while that sucks awfully, things are going to work out. Trust me.

School started one and a half weeks ago. I'm taking Online Algebra II, English 205 (2nd course honors level), Civics and Economics Honors, and CREATIVE WRITING!!

Which, of course, is my favorite class. When we get our laptops this week, I can start posting everything I write to by blog without difficulty. Until then, I may be going dark, but not for too long.

I realize that I never finished posting about the Dominican, so here's my extremely short speed-run on all of it (after Friday):

Saturday- went to a small village for the day, and brought tons of toys to the kids and just played with them all day. They have these little fruits, which are green and you crack them open with your teeth, they taste between a grape and an orange- very good! The tree in the center of the school courtyard ( we were at their school for the duration)was filled with them. And its nice seeing little kids smile :) even if you can't understand them well.

Sunday- massive church day. I can't remember the entire day, as it was going on 3 weeks ago, but I do remember going to some Spanish church for 3 hours (yeah, three), where I couldn't understand a thing because it was in a different language. And...i don't do well with church anyways.

Monday- Went to the village we went to on Saturday again, and helped re-paint the entire school. It was nice seeing the kids again :)

Tuesday- went to a different village, this one much poorer than the other (which was still extremely poor). All the kids there were SO sweet though, and we made them all lunch and took pictures and played games- it was hot, but i loved it.

Wednesday- Beach day! Both good and bad, for a few reasons, but overall it was pretty nice. Good day to just relax.

Thursday- Took a bus to Santo Dominico, the capital, and took a historical tour of the richer-er district, along with going to some cave complex where they filmed part of Jurassic Park known as "the tigers eye". We got on the plane to Miami after an hour delay, but because of such we missed out second flight by like 15 minutes. After arguing with the American Airlines customs people for like, 2 hours, they finally gave us lodges in this FANTASTIC sports resort called the Doral for the night. By the time we got there though, it was like 12, and after dinner we had around 2 hours to sleep before we had to leave to catch or flight back to Charlotte. Yeah, LONG travel day.

I'll post some of my favorite pictures later on when I get time!

Dominican Mission Trip: Friday

Well, I got back on Friday after some god awful traveling, and I've spent the last couple of days resting (and running cross country twice a day, 2 hours each...blegh). School is in a week, so I'm kind of racing the clock on summer. Anyways, here's my rundown of the trip (starting with Friday)

Friday: Travel day. Arrived at the church at 11:00 on Thursday and took the two-hour car ride to Charlotte in the middle of the night. Our driver, Trey, who is honestly the funniest guy I've ever met (he is 22 and in college, and was chaperoning us the entire trip) probably made this one Indian guy's night...singing and making fun while he was leading us from the parking lot to the airport.

Got to the airport around 1:30 and had to wait till 4 until the terminals opened up. Some of the kids started racing and everything in the wheelchairs and overall being loud and rowdy, which meant 0 sleep at all for Devin (and the other people sleeping in the airport). Finally got on the plane at around 5:30 after going through security, and spent the rest of the 2-hour flight to Miami trying to get some sleep on a three-seat-to-a-row plane. Extremely uncomfortable. Got to Miami, immediately jumped on a much larger plane to the Dominican. Another 2-hour flight, than customs and security and we were in.

Met up with our four local "chaperons" from COI (christian outreach international), who were probably the happiest people I've ever met. 45-minute car ride to San Pedro, the city where we would be staying at, and immediately had lunch. Pasta, but not like I've known..they put goat cheese on EVERYTHING, and it was...unexpected to say the least. Had about an hour of rest at the house we were staying at before going to some local bible camp. Kids were really cute, but I couldn't understand a word they said :p Rested for another couple of hours before going to church, which involved two hours of singing and dancing and more Spanish. Soooooo confusing.

Went out to some Calzone place (no idea how to spell that) at around 11, then came "home" and went to sleep. Thats after 36 hours of staying wide awake. Suffice to say, i was pooped.

I'll post on the other days throughout the week!

Off to the Dominican!

Leaving for the Dominican Republic at around 11/11:30 tonight with the church. Taking a bus down to Charlotte for about 2 hours, than staying at the airport for another two or three. Finally board our plain at 5 in the morning.....UGH.

And, I have anxiety problems...and I hate flying...so this should be fun :P Everything will be alright I know, but I'm already nervous and its what...6?

Anyways, while we're they we're going to the beach for a day (Andreas going with me so that will be fun :) ) and visiting the actual site where they filmed Jurassic Park. Other days we're going to spend working at a Dominican Village, helping build a school and other charity stuff. Should be fun!

Anyways, now for the bad stuff...Malaria (I'm taking pills, so I should be good) unclean water, disease, 100+ temperatures (ugggggh) and all that fun stuff. I hope everything is going to be okay :(

Well, wish me luck! I'll post again in about a week!

Alright...I'm Back

Sorry for that...long, long, stressful week. Almost broke up with andrea...twice...but I think things are better now. On top of that is a bratty sister, being cooped up in the house due to rain and 40-ish temperatures during the summer (ugggh), learning that my friend went to New York without be and brought along another kid, and not being able to get together with anyone to just hang out.

Long week, to say the least. But this week is going to be better- leaving for the Dominican early of Friday. I'm a little nervous of flying over the Gulf, but its not like I haven't flown before. Its going to be fun- helping some poor village near the Hati border (i think they were hit by that earthquake), going to the beach for a day for a break, and worship.

Two problems: I'm not a devout Christian in almost any way, so worship would be...difficult for me, as is going to church every Sunday. Luckily they'd be speaking in Spanish so...yeah. 2nd, besides Andrea I'm not very close to many people there. Tyler and Jackson are cool though, so I'll be hanging with them when I'm not with Andrea.

Rough few days

Sorry for the lack of posting....been having a really hard couple of days. I'll be back sooner or later...probably within the week.

Shots

Had to get shots for my Dominican Republic trip today- Tetanis, Hepatitis A, and (I think) Meningitis. My arms hurt, but I guess its better than dying out there or whatnot.

On a different note, guess what favorite disease is lurking around that part of the world? Malaria! More pills it looks like then....blegh

Bonfire

Got a bunch of friends together last night and had a bonfire at my house. It was a lot of fun, even if half the people I invited didn't show up :( Sat around and drank cokes, chatted, played a card game called Munchkinz, made smores, and overall just had a good time. Kind of upset about a few things that happened that night, among them being made fun of because I couldn't start a fire and almost crashing my friend's Moped, but oh well...

We'll see how the rest of the week goes. Only 4 more weeks of summer

July 09

Another low key day...this summer seems really unproductive compared to last summer. Hung around for half the afternoon, Andrea came over at 3, left early for some reason...which was kind of upsetting, but I don't think she was feeling good.

Went on another hike (well, more of a walk) around The Maze at Moses Cone. Nice walk, but doesn't have many views or much scenery.

Thinking about having a bonfire with some friends tomorrow. Hopefully that will help make this summer seem a little better.

Nothing much today. Marcus came over and we've been playing Xbox ever since. Pretty low-key day. Listening to music right now, probably gonna stay up halfway through the night lol. Good times.

7 on the 7th

Alright day today- got up at 7:00 and went to the High School to do my Cross Country workouts at 7:30. 40 minute medium run followed by strides and abbes, so it wasn't that hard of a day.

Came home and did my online class work- 4 assignments is the usual, which really sucks >.< but, hey, it gets geometry out of the way.

Rained for most of the afternoon- kind of a pattern nowadays, but I'm getting more or less used to it. Still is eating up a lot of my summer afternoon uptown time with friends, but altogether I'm not having a bad summer, just not as good as last year.

Went on two walks today: one at 4 for about fourty-five minutes on my street, and another around Simms Creek at about 7:30. Simms creek was about two miles, and it was really, really pretty at Dusk because of the mist and light. We got ambushed by cows halfway through XD there was a herd of them, and they surrounded us and started staring at our dog, moving closer and everything. It was kind of scary, but also...weird.

So, thats my day. Gonna try to post daily from now on.

I'm Back! :D

Well, I'm sorry for the (rather extended) leave of absence, but I'm back :) Anywho, gonna be using this as a kind of diary from now on- trying to post every day and all :)

Whats going on since I last posted:

Drivers Permit (1 step closer to a license!)
Online Geometry class over the summer (blegh)
Mission trip to the Dominican Republic at the end of this month :)

I'll try posting later today!

Taking a Sabatical

I dont think i'm ever going to truley leave this blog, but for the moment, i just dont have enough time or desire to continue writing. I've been increadibly stressed out, 2nd semester just started up, and i have a bunch of other stuff going on thats either boring or too personal to really wright up here. I may come back...eventually. But right now, i just dont want to keep writing. Its like all of the moitvation i have had for writing has been replaced by school, friends, girlfriend, homework, all of that.

And im sorry that i haven't been commenting at all :( But for anyone who read and commented here...thanks. for everything.
